Runsheng Zhao is a versatile jazz guitarist and dedicated educator based in Denton, Texas. With a deep foundation in both small combo and big band settings, he has performed extensively across the University of North Texas jazz scene, including with the acclaimed Three O’Clock and Four O’Clock Lab Bands, as well as the innovative L5 Jazz Guitar Ensemble. His playing reflects a commitment to both tradition and exploration, shaped by a strong background in arranging and composing.
Currently pursuing a Master of Music in Jazz Studies at the University of North Texas, Runsheng brings the same creative focus to his teaching as he does to the stage. He serves as a Teaching Assistant, leading guitar ensembles and providing one-on-one instruction. Known for his patient and adaptive teaching style, he incorporates visual and mnemonic strategies to meet students where they are — helping them grow musically and artistically.
Whether performing in concert halls or guiding students through their first jazz standards, Runsheng’s passion lies in connecting with others through music.
